Quick Tips

Here are some quick tips to use as you work to control your blood sugar:

  • Eat 6-8 times each day and make sure that you have protein with every meal and every snack.
  • Instead of coffee in the late afternoon, have water with lemon or perhaps herbal tea. Have a protein snack with it, and after a few days, you probably won’t even miss that one cup.
  • Choose to skip one cigarette break each day and treat yourself to a protein snack instead.
  • Join your co-workers for lunch instead of eating at your desk. You’ll enjoy your meal more and you’ll get in the socializing you may miss when you start skipping cigarette breaks.
  • Pick one meeting this week and decide not to eat a donut. Treat yourself to some nuts or a piece of cheese before of after the meeting (or both).
  • Eat your fiber! Eat lots of raw vegetables and when you eat breads, make them whole grain
  • Keep the cookies/chips/soft drinks out of your grocery cart this week. When the kids go looking for a snack, remind them how good yogurt and fresh fruit is or give them a small bowl of trail mix to eat while they do their homework.
  • Try adding a multivitamin with minerals, Vitamin C and Chromium to help stabilize your blood sugar.
  • Shop the perimeter of the store and stay away from the aisles that have the over-processed packaged foods.
  • Leave the kids at home when you shop, and stick to your grocery list.
