Exercise

If I’m hypoglycemic, does that mean that I will always be overweight?

Insulin is a storage chemical, so if your body is producing too much insulin, chances are you will carry too much weight.

This is why it is very difficult for many hypoglycemics to lose weight. Using the diet recommendations in this book, you will begin to stabilize your blood sugar, and by extension, your insulin production. Once this improvement to your metabolism begins, many of your other hormones will start to normalize, too. This will change your body’s set point, and you should drift slowly down to your proper weight. This will be a slow process, and you should not count calories or become obsessed with your weight. Instead, continue to concentrate on improving your well being through diet.

The National Weight Control Registry

Jim Hill PhD, of the University of Colorado, noticed that there are very few people who are able to lose weight and keep it off for an extended period of time. He started the National Weight Control Registry to track the people who have succeeded in losing at least 30 pounds and have kept it off for at least a year.

Information and case studies appeared on CNN on July 6, 2002 on a program called "Fat Chance" with medical correspondent Elizabeth Cohen.

Of all the things these "club members" do to maintain their lower, healthier weights, there are seven things that all of the participants have in common. Keep in mind that there are additional constraints for the hypoglycemic diet, but most of these are great advice for hypoglycemics as well.
